Margie Salcedo Rice, Assistant Conductor and Concertmaster
Margie is beginning her 36th season with the Ukiah Symphony. She began violin lessons at age seven and later studied with Claire Hodgkins, former assistant to world-renowned violinist, Jascha Heifetz. She has played with the Riverside Symphony, Santa Rosa Symphony, Guayaquil Symphony, and later became Concertmaster of the Loma Linda University Orchestra where she received her degrees in business administration and music, graduating magna cum laude.
In 2008 she performed the Mozart Symphony Concertante with Keith Lawrence, violist. Her past musical accomplishments have included performances as featured soloist of the Bruch Violin Concerto and Mozart G Major Concerto. In 2005, she and her students debuted at Carnegie Hall and in 2006 at Kennedy Center. Margie has been teaching violin for more than 30 years and currently conducts the Ukiah Junior Academy Orchestra, K-6 Choirs and Ukiah Junior Academy Chorale. She has served as Choral Director and Minister of Music for the Seventh-Day Adventist Church conducting the annual “Christmas Cantata--The Glory of Christmas,” now in its 24th season. In addition to playing the violin, Margie is an accomplished vocalist. She was a featured soloist in “Broadway Under the Stars” in 2011. She has appeared as “Beauty” in the Ukiah Symphony’s production of Beauty and the Beast and “Broadway Under the Stars” with Jarrod McNaughton. She completed her third album, “In Your Holiness,” released in April of 2010 and has two albums, “Carry Me On” and “By My Side” with the Salcedo Sisters. She is featured regularly on Three Angels Broadcasting Television Network and performs Christian Contemporary concerts across the country. Margie resides in Ukiah with her husband, Dr. Geoffrey Rice, Ophthalmologist. She has three musical daughters, Jessica (violinist), Patricia (violinist) and Elizabeth (cellist). |
